What to Wear: Bastille Day
Bastille Day, the French equivalent of our 4th of July holiday, is celebrated with parades, picnics and fireworks all across France. For us Americans, it’s the perfect excuse to pull out our best red, white and blue ensemble (that we probably wore only a mere 10 days ago), add a bit of French flair, and declare it our chicest blue, white and red look.
Necklace Madewell. Sunglasses Dior. Purse Longchamp. Bracelet Madewell. Bracelet Dogeared. Bracelet Stack My Grammar of Ornament. Shoes Lacoste. Shorts J.Crew. Shirt Anthropologie.
Summer parties in Austin are all about staying cool in the sweltering heat, so for a Bastille Day celebration, I’d spin off the classic French marinière shirt into a pair of cool shorts with an airy white tie top. Comfortable flats from the French label synonymous with sportswear are perfect for a day of frolicking outdoors, easily slipping off and on for a barefoot picnic in the grass.
In hand, a classic French tote bag to hold a bottle of French wine and a fresh baguette and some sunnies on my head to keep the harsh rays out of my eyes. I’d keep my jewelry simple and chic, like the French do, with a long trinket necklace and a few stacked bracelets. Violà! We’re ready for La Fête!
