Sometimes I’m just a sucker for a party with a theme. From invitation to execution, one of the more beautifully themed events of SXSW was the Warby Parker Citizen’s Circus – 3 days and nights of Parisian circus fun.
The lovely soiree – stretching from March 12th-14th at the French Legation Museum – filled the days with live music and the nights were a hint of vaudeville with The Citizen’s Band “complete with trapeze artists, song-belters, burlesque performances, and all manner of theatrical mischief.”
We came for the later and enjoyed the softer, more subdued crowd for a SXSW night. Groups gathered on the great lawn and seemed mesmerized by the eclectic spectacle that took the stage.
Warby Parker is a hip eyewear start-up and their party was not without their stylish frames. The Warby Parker red-and-white-striped Yurt showcased dozens of eyeware for guests to try on and purchase.
The free event seemed equal parts locals and SXSW attendees.
Overheard was an Austinite talking with another guest, telling her he lived on the same block as the party. She asked if he minded parties like these in the neighborhood, and he responded, “No. It’s parties like this one that make me love living here.”
