SXSW 2016: The Best Parties for Morning Music, Festival Workouts, Naps and More

© by South By San Jose Facebook

SXSW is upon us, and we’re busy over here making our schedules for the week ahead – sorting through the Facebook invites, RSVP emails and party lists from friends.

Our SXSW Party Guide is now live, and we’ve also picked our top events for every type of festival goer.

Group Sweat Fest: Outdoor Voices Jogger’s Brunch – Saturday, March 12

If you’re like us, SXSW is over a week of eating at parties and entirely neglecting any sense of healthy living. Local fitness brand Outdoor Voices comes to the rescue with their Joggers Brunch! This three-mile jog starts at the iconic Willie Nelson statue on 2nd Street and ends at the Outdoor Voices shop off West 6th Street for a healthy brunch and some sweet OV swag.

Other SXSW Workout Events: Spotify House Morning SoulCycle, Roof Top Yoga w/Live Music @ WeWork SXSWSchool of Self Expression PE Class: NW Method

You Wanna Get Away: Luck Reunion – Friday, March 18

When the crowds aren’t quite your thing, get in the car and head about an hour west of Austin to a little town called Luck. Luck is Willie Nelson’s scenic Old West town and host venue for a day filled with 35 bands, pop-up shops and food trucks. Tickets are $50 and are released in small batches by Luck Reunion and their sponsors via social media.

Proceeds from Luck Reunion benefit Wholesome WaveREVERBHAAM (Health Alliance for Austin Musicians) and SIMS Foundation.

Iconic Austin Music Party Without the Lines:
South X San Jose – Wednesday, March 16 – Sunday, March 20

The party started in 1998 and comes back every SXSW as a place locals and out-of-towners come together for an event all about the bands. The stage is tucked between the Hotel San Jose and Jo’s Coffee and packed with five days of non-stop music. The crowd grows each day as it gets later, but it is always a good spot to stop in, hang out and enjoy some music.

Other Iconic Austin Events Without the Line: Waterloo Day Parties, Austin City Limits Bloody Mary Morning

Women Empowerment at the Festival: Refinery29 School of Self Expression presented by Neiman Marcus – Saturday, March 12 – Sunday, March 13

Refinery29 and Neiman Marcus are holding class with workshops from “today’s most creative movers, shakers, and makers in technology, art and fashion.” While you’re in school, check out the Neiman Marcus Dream Closet, take augmented reality selfies, complete a life-size coloring book and leave your mark in the yearbook!

Other Women Empowerment Events: What She Said, Tumblr’s 79¢ PartyCreate and Cultivate Pop-UpAmy Pohler’s Smart Girls Party

Early Morning Music for a Great Cause: KUTX at Four Seasons & KGSR at W Austin –  Wednesday, March 16 – Saturday, March 19

Ok, we couldn’t pick just one. Both morning broadcast series – KUTX and KGSR – are the best way to start your day during SXSW Music. KGSR hosts their series each morning at the W Austin Ballroom. With a $5 donation to the Make-A-Wish Central & South Texas, you get your cup of morning coffee, breakfast treats and a great line-up of music.

KUTX hosts their series in the Four Seasons Lobby. With a $10 donation to the Seton Shivers Cancer Center, you get breakfast, unlimited coffee and three hours of music – all before lunch time.

For the Foodie: SouthBites Dinner Series – Sunday, March 13 – Tuesday, March 15

The SXSW SouthBites team has created three pretty spectacular nights of dining at Qui. Sunday starts with “the meal of a lifetime” by chefs Enrique Olvera (Cosme) & Paul Qui (Qui). Monday, continues the tasting fun with  Ludo Lefebvre (Trois Mec) and Alex Stupak (Empellon) accompanying Paul Qui in the kitchen.

Then the final night closes with José Andrés (minibar) and a super group of past and present ThinkFoodGroup chefs for an amazing night of food benefiting Austin Food & Wine Alliance.

Other Foodie Events: Rachael Ray Feedback, SouthBites Trailer Park, S’mores Under the Stars

When You Just Want a Nap: Casper Nap Tour – Saturday, March 12 – Saturday, March 19

With all the chaos of SXSW, you almost need to schedule a nap. Well, aren’t you in luck? Casper is bringing their rolling napmobile to SXSW.

Schedule your 15-minute nap in one of their pods stationed in the middle of downtown. It’s the perfect way to catch some zzz’s after your day parties and be fully rested to start all over again into the night!
