Spring 2011 Gala Guide

To see the most updated list of gala picks,
As the holidays fade away, the spring gala season is quickly upon us here in Austin. We’ve compiled a checklist of our favorites and are happy to share them with you today. As diverse as the city is, so are its major fundraisers. There’s sure to be something for everyone during the upcoming season!
The 2011 gala season kicks off next Saturday, January 29, with two of the most anticipated Austin galas, Dell Children’s Gala 2011 and Gala Lumière: 2011 Blanton Museum Gala. The mix of these two black-tie events on the same evening will surely bring out some of Austin’s best in fashion and fun.

February shows some gala love with the Valentine’s Day weekend Human Rights Campaign Gala Dinner. The love will continue throughout the night, as the Anti-Defamation League is honored for it’s “No Place for Hate” campaign in schools. February 24th brings an Austin treasure, Austin City Limits, downtown with the KLRU Opening Night. The evening will include the unveiling of the new backdrop for the television show and a performance by Steve Miller Band.

March 5th is another starry night filled with spring events, but the Crystal Ball is one to not be missed. This Austin tradition – since 1939 – is one of Austin’s larger galas and benefits Helping Hand Home for Children. The middle of March is always filled with an influx of entertainment and sizzle that comes with SXSW. The event that kicks off the excitement is the Texas Hall of Fame Awards presented by the Austin Film Society. March 26, the Bandana Ball takes us south to Wild Onion Ranch for an old West themed ball. Cowboy hats are optional but a good time will be had by all at this benefit for the Ronald McDonald House Charities of Austin and Central Texas.

This brings us to the mid-point in the gala season. We would be remiss if we didn’t  bring up the event that lives up to it’s name, Zach Scott Theater’s ‘Red, Hot and Soul’ Gala. The April 16th event, will get every one in the Hilton Austin dancing and on their feet! The month continues it’s ‘saucier’ of galas with the Mexic-Arte Museum Gala “Arte y Glamour,” on April 30th. This private home event will shake up the 78746 with some Mexican flare.

May seems far away, but we encourage you to save the date for some of Austin’s amazing causes and events. Cattle Baron’s Ball on May 7th will bring Texas country favorite Pat Green to the Four Seasons for a night supporting the American Cancer Society. The following week, May 14th, the Heart Ball of Austin will help close out the event season on a high note.

We encourage you to support one one or more of the great causes above. Spring is a wonderful time to spend at the innumerable events and festivals, so get out there and enjoy Austin!
