RECAP: My Yacht Club at Ballet Austin

In only its second year, the U.S. Grand Prix party circuit seems to be hitting its stride. That was certainly evident Friday night when we dropped by the My Yacht Club party, which took place inside Ballet Austin on 3rd St. Typically held on an actual yacht during F1 events in Monaco and other exotic seaside locales, the Austin event definitely had a flavor all its own.

The first portion of the evening was dedicated to Ballet Austin patrons, giving them a preview of the weekend’s festivities. Patron chandeliers hung over cocktail tables and food from Garrido’s greeted the crowd. Projected above those assembled were vintage F1 photographs that revealed a fascinating history of the sport in images.

Once the cocktail hour came to a close (at 10pm), those who had purchased tickets to the actual MYC party were ushered into the Austin Ventures Theater, which had been transformed into a nightclub on par with those across Europe. Gorgeous white banquettes and giant cubed screens with graphic projections set the scene for a VIP experience rarely seen in Austin.

VIPs on Friday night included media types, models and boldface names on the local circuit like Becky Beaver and John DuncanJeff Coddington, Eric Copper, Ava & Steve Late, Donaji Lira, and Monica Peraza. These movers and shakers (and many others) were seen living it up on the dance floor to the tunes of the DJ and his cadre of beautiful admirers.

Among the 1,400 attendees throughout the weekend were American actors Nichole Galicia, Matt LeBlanc, and Rick Yune, plus New Zealand actor Manu Bennett. Also on hand were Austinite John Paul DeJoria, Per Hallberg, Sauber F1 driver Nico Hülenkenberg, and former World Middleweight Champion Jake LaMotta, who enjoyed the scene with his wife Saturday night.
