Friday night, Austin’s best and brightest donned their finest cocktail duds to let their hair down at the Best Party Ever. For graduates of Leadership Austin programs or the civic-minded who are engaged in all things Austin, the party is somewhat our own version of Cheers – where everybody knows your name and they’re always glad you came.
The evening is an annual fundraiser and celebration for Leadership Austin, but also honors three individuals who exemplify the core values of the organization: community trusteeship, inclusiveness, collaborative decision-making and personal responsibility. For 2013, Susan Dawson was named the Polly Scallorn Community Trustee, Gary Farmer received the Exceptional Award for Honorary Alumnus, and Chelsea McCullough was given the Ascendant Award.
The veteran party moved locations this year to the W Austin, taking over the ballroom and overlooking the cityscape on the outdoor patio. The entire space glowed, which perfectly paired with the “illumination” theme. Lounge areas scattered amongst tables and cocktails, but as the night came to a close, the dance floor pulled guests from every corner of the room.
The night continued downstairs at the hotel’s restaurant TRACE, where the breakfast tacos and great company were the perfect setting to raise a toast to the end of the spring social season.
