RECAP: Ice Ball 2013

If this past weekend was the unofficial start to the fall 2013 social season, then Saturday certainly kicked it into high gear. The choices were many, but we decided to spend some time at the 9th annual Ice Ball at the Hilton, benefiting Big Brothers Big Sisters.

We began our evening at the VIP pre-party, which was packed with sponsors, board members, supporters, program participants and chic party goers. All gathered in a lounge set up by the Kennedy Creative team to sip icy grapefruit drinks, nosh and catch up on what we’d done (and where we’d been) this summer.

As the main party began  in the ballroom, the early crowd migrated upstairs and mingled with those already assembled around food stations featuring Austin favorites like Maudie’s, Stubb’s and Moonshine. Once everyone was seated, the evening’s program began and the message about the fantastic job Big Brothers Big Sisters does mentoring youth was communicated to all.

Did you know that over 97% of Little Brothers and Sisters typically stay in school? We didn’t. Did you know that this year alone, BBBS volunteers will provide 90,000 hours mentoring children in Central Texas…or that this has a time value of nearly $2 million? We didn’t know that either. The $350,000 raised Saturday night should go a long way to ensuring that this great organization can continue it’s mission to provide one-on-one mentoring for years to come.
