RECAP: ‘Happy Chic’ Crowd Toasts Jonathan Adler’s New Book

We’ve come to one of my favorite times in the year. The fall social season is winding down and taking its place are evenings filled with festive lights, iconic holiday melodies and overall merriment.

First evening out for the holiday season was spent venturing to the Jonathan Adler store for a book signing with the author and namesake, benefiting AIDS Service of Austin’s Paul Kirby Emergency Fund.

The evening’s hosts Paul Scott, Scott Simons, Lance Avery Morgan, Rob Giadinelli, Mark Erwin and Stephen Rice brought together an elite group, filling the store with guests among the many vignettes.

Most coveted item in the store was Jonathan Adler’s new book, 100 Ways to Happy Chic Your Life. Part inspirational how-to and part modern, eclectic design photo book, the bright pages mirrored the store’s aesthetic and personality of Jonathan Adler.

So, yes, I purchased a copy and am already taking pieces of his many mantra to heart, like “take yourself off autopilot” and “nap in odd places.”

Equally inspiring pieces of wisdom were placed throughout the store and on merchandise. Personal favorite: “liberate your inner hippie.”

In short, I just loved every part of the tongue and cheek chic store – a welcomed addition to the 5th and Lamar area. And, with 10% of purchases benefiting AIDS Service of Austin, the evening was an all-around lovely way to kick-off the season of giving.
