RECAP: Dancing with the Stars Austin

Benefiting the Center for Child Protection

One of the city’s most popular fundraising events, Dancing with the Stars Austin, celebrated its 10th anniversary with an entertainment-filled evening that drew 1,000 people to the Hilton Austin.Inaugural event chairs Jeanne Parker and Venus Strawn returned to mark the anniversary and raised more than $1.1 million for the Center for Child Protection.

Jackie Mooney and professional partner Glenn Ball’s Michael Jackson-inspired routine earned them the title of 2016 Dancing with the Stars Austin winners. First runner-up went to Erin Johnston and professional partner Randy Ferguson, while Johnson Vaughn Brock, performing on behalf of his father, Vaughn Brock, and professional partner Taylor Edwards were awarded second runner-up.

In addition to the dance competition, guests enjoyed a live auction and special performances by ZACH Theatre’s Pre-Professional Company and Founding Director and Emcee Sabrina Truscott, alongside the event’s professional dancers. The evening ended with guests taking over the dance floor and moving to the beats of DJ Johnny Bravvo.

The Center for Child Protection is a nationally accredited children’s advocacy center and the only nonprofit in Travis County involved in the investigation and prosecution of crimes against children. For more than 25 years, the Center has been the first stop for children in Travis County who are suspected victims of sexual abuse, physical abuse and for children who have witnessed a violent crime.
