Last Saturday, nearly 650 of Austin’s brightest stars gathered at the JW Marriott for CASAblanca, an evening of fun, philanthropy and old Hollywood glamour, benefiting CASA of Travis County. This annual gala raised a record $645,000 for CASA, enough for the child-welfare organization to provide volunteer advocates for 430 children in the foster care system for a year.
Guests walked the red carpet into a cocktail reception, before dinner in the grand ballroom, accompanied by music from the Vintage 15 big band. Event Chair Catherine Sansbury and Honorary Chair Kelly Dodson kicked off the program, which featured stories of children in the foster care system and the CASA volunteers who spoke up for their best interests.
Executive Director Laura Wolf spoke about the state of the child welfare system in Texas and Board President David Rubin asked guests to put themselves into the shoes of children whose lives are filled with high levels of uncertainty. A moving film in which guests got to meet two young brothers adopted from foster care and a live auction filled with excitement and surprises rounded out the program.
The party didn’t stop when the program ended, as guests found their way to an after-party complete with a casino and dancing to big band music, as well as hot chocolate and cupcake bars for guests to feed their late night sweet tooth.
