For the ninth year in a row, the Hilton Austin ballroom was packed to the gills with some of the city’s most chic and fabulous residents, all with one thing on their minds – who would take home the coveted mirror ball trophy at this year’s Dancing With the Stars Austin?
Competitors from all walks of life practiced with their professional dance partners for months in preparation for the big night. All that practice paid off, too, because the performances were pretty spectacular and covered a variety of dance styles.
This is definitely one event where the audience is almost as much a part of the show as the competitors. Scores of tables rose to their feet with lights, noise makers and their voices shouting approval for their chosen couple.
Following the performances and audience voting, event Chairs Katrine Formby and Venus Strawn announced that Erin Johnston and her professional partner Albert Tailleur were the winners of the 2015 competition. First runner up went to Jenny Mason and professional partner Gary McIntyre. Brian DeRoeck and his professional partner Klair Van Slyke came in as second runner up!
Although fun and competition are the focus of this fantastic closer to the fall social season, the real reason everyone gathers each December is to support Center for Child Protection and all that it does to serve the community. By raising awareness for child victims, the Center is able to provide much needed resources for those in desperate need. The Center is the only nonprofit in Travis County involved in the investigation of crimes against children.
Plans are already being made for the 10th Anniversary of Dancing with the Stars Austin and rumor has it that it will be an all-star extravaganza. We can’t wait!
