CHARITY: The 29th annual AIDS Walk Austin, benefiting AIDS Services of Austin and 11 other local HIV and AIDS advocacy organizations, takes place this Sunday, October 16. The event includes a day full of live music, food, and entertainment. Austin-based singer-songwriter Nakia will lead the walk as the Honorary Chair and will join his band, Nakia and the Blues Grifters, afterward for a live performance. Chris Saldaña, anchor of CBS Austin This Morning, will return as guest emcee.
FOOD: South Congress Hotel Executive Chef Michael Paley and Executive Pastry Chef Amanda Rockman will host Austin’s first No Kid Hungry Dinner & Live Auction on Thursday, October 20. The night will feature courses by guest chefs and includes handcrafted cocktails Justin Elliott of The Townsend. After dinner, a live auction will feature one-of-a-kind experience packages donated by each participating chef. NONPROFIT: The Literacy Coalition of Central Texas presents Reading Between the Wines on Friday, October 28 at the The Texas Federation of Women’s Clubs Mansion. The sip and stroll event will feature 22 food and beverage vendors and promises to be an all-around delicious night. A live auction of wines curated by Sommeliers June Rodil (McGuire Moorman Hospitality) and Mark Sayre (ELM Restaurant Group) will be a highlight of the evening. FOOD: Red Ash, the highly anticipated craft Italian restaurant located in the new Colorado Tower building at 303 Colorado St., opens this Saturday, October 15. The wood fired-focused establishment will be helmed by owner and Executive Chef John Carver, in collaboration with partners and restaurateurs Larry Foles and Guy Villavaso.
