Hot-Air Balloons Take Flight Over Horseshoe Bay Resort This Weekend

Balloons Over Horseshoe Bay Resort returns for its seventh year on Easter weekend, April 19 – 20. Just a hour from Downtown Austin, the weekend festival is a perfect day trip or – even better – staycation at the 7,000-acre, AAA Four Diamond-rated Horseshoe Bay Resort on the shore of Lake LBJ.

It’s our first year to check it out, and we’re beyond excited. The 2-day event is an award-winning affair, with recent wins at the Gala Awards for Best International Special Event and the Adrian Awards for Best Special Event.

For those first-timers like us, we got the details about the weekend! Friday kicks-off for VIP ticket-holders with a Texas Cowboy Cookout, wine tasting, music by Big City Outlaws and the first Balloon Glow of the weekend.

On Saturday at the festival site, the event will offer balloon rides, helicopter rides, rock wall climbing, and a helicopter Easter egg drop, where Easter eggs will literally fall from the sky. Then the night will close with more music from the JB and the Moonshine Band and a finale Balloon Glow.

Saturday tickets are $30 for adults and $5 for children. VIP and Ticket Packages, which include two-night stay at the resort, are available. These guests gain extra activities on Friday night, as well as special Easter hunts and brunch at the property.

What is a Balloon Glow?

Balloons inflate and light themselves by the large flame fueled by a propane gas tank set at the base of each balloon just above each rider basket. The sight of hot air balloons lit up like giant light bulbs is quite popular and visually breathtaking. At Balloons over Horseshoe Bay Resort, event organizers will coordinate ‘all burns’ where pilots fire up their burners illuminating their balloons all at once.
