EVENT RECAP: Fashion For Compassion at Saks

Submitted by on April 20, 2011 – 5:00 PM2 Comments

Last Friday, Austin Children’s Shelter staged a stellar event featuring some of the brightest stars on the social scene walking the runway for a great cause. Fashion for Compassion set the right tone from the moment guests walked in the front door of Saks, with cocktails flowing as fluidly as the spring dresses on the ladies.

Most guests commiserated in and around the cosmetics department, while tasty bites and libations tempted party goers on either side of the first floor. The din of conversation was broken only by percussive sounds coming from upstairs…beats which turned out to be a drum line signaling to the crowd that it was time to move on to the second phase of the evening…a live auction and fashion show.

After emcee Olga Campos warmed up the crowd for a live auction astutely handled by Austin Police Chief Art Acevedo, the social swans began the show in a cleverly crisscrossed runway setup that had the models moving from one end of the room to another. After the show, it was off to dessert and a feast of sweet bites, including a cake made to resemble a Chanel handbag in a box. All-in-all it was a great night, with more than $115,000 raised for children and young adults in need.
