Breast Cancer Resource Center Champagne Brunch

Let’s see…a brunch for the cause. Seems like we have an opportunity in Austin to support a variety of organizations worthy of our time and resources multiple times a month. However, there’s nothing quite like the annual Breast Cancer Resource Center Champagne Brunch, this year taking place in and around our city’s modernist gem (not to mention a tangible example of overcoming odds), the Long Center for the Performing Arts. Replete with a variety of culinary delights, signature cocktails, and a variety of musical acts, brunchers will gather to honor the memory of the brave women who have been lost to breast cancer.

The always invigorating and inspirational fundraiser, hosted by social stalwarts (and early Austin Social Planner supporters) Linda Ball and Forrest Preece, will feature advertising maven and gal about town M.P. Mueller and Jarrett Crippen as emcees. Dr. James W. and Ruth Pennebaker will share their experience of breast cancer with humor and insight. The Pennebaker’s were in their mid-40’s when Ruth was diagnosed with stage 2b breast cancer in 1995…and you can bet they have stories to tell.

Now in its 16th year, organizers of the brunch are aiming to make the 2011 edition the most successful fundraiser in BCRC history. And on a September 11th that will already be somber and celebratory for obvious reasons, why not get down to the Long Center and do your part to help the BCRC to enhance and extend the no-cost programs, support groups and emergency funding that provides services to 3,500 clients throughout Travis and Williamson Counties? In other words, come out prepared to do good! Cancer is something that affects nearly every one of us in some way or another, including Austin Social Planner…so you can bet your pink ribbons we’ll be there to show our support.
