There are some things that Texans can get behind if not in action than at least in word … Independence! Revolution! Any excuse for a party is always welcome.
Alliance Française d’Austin’s 16th Annual Bastille Day Party is Texas’s largest celebration for France’s Fête Nationale. For those of you who slept in history class, Bastille Day is the anniversary of the storming of the Bastille fortress-prison – widely seen as a symbol of the uprising of the modern French nation and a pivotal moment of the French Revolution. In plain English, it’s how the French throw a tea party.
Local musicians Ava Arenella, Kalu James, Courtney Sanchez and SWAY will help celebrate, même le chant en français. This family event will also include children’s games and the traditional French game pétanque. Austin-area French food vendors such as La Pâtisserie, Pascal’s Catering, “Say She Ate” Mobile Comfort Foods, Mundi and Crepe Crazy will provide the feasting.
Proceeds will help support the Historic French Legation Museum and grounds, which represents France’s first trade mission to the Republic of Texas over 170 years ago, as well as Alliance Française d’Austin’s Frederique Moinard Scholarship Fund.
