Art Night Austin E.A.S.T.

Picture it. You find yourself in a dark alley in a neighborhood of warehouses on another side of town. You know you’d be better oriented if it were only daylight because you’ve been here hundreds of times before. But wait…what’s that you hear? Music? Laughter? Energetic conversation? You creep around the corner, make your way into a large door and what have you found? If you’re lucky enough to be at Art Night Austin’s East Austin Studio Tour (E.A.S.T.) preview, you’ve found a good time, my friends.

As the official kick-off to the annual East Austin Studio Tour, this Friday’s Art Night Austin E.A.S.T. has become a regular first-look stop on the east side visual arts circuit. With six venues on the itinerary and artists representing a variety of mediums, there’s bound to be something that appeals to your inner collector. Oh, and did we mention that you’ll travel from location to location in the comfort of your own chauffeured shuttle? Or the fact that each of the six stops includes complimentary food and drinks from some of the city’s best restaurants, distillers and wineries? Or that each venue has it’s own soundtrack provided by a local DJ? Austin Social Planner thinks you’re starting to get the picture.

The night wraps up with one of the best after-parties on the fall social calendar and is included in the price of admission. Taking place at Pine Street Station, and always a great time, the 2010 after-party includes an appearance by New York artist David Ellis, who was recently commissioned by the University of Texas’ public art program. Other highlights include an artist Q&A , a poetry reading , live painting, and music by DJ Orion, DJ Tako and Mesanger, plus performances by BBoy Recon and The Austin Urban Dancers. An arts-centric Friday night in Austin doesn’t get much better than this, so don’t miss out on your chance to go E.A.S.T., young ladies and gentlemen!
